You don’t have to be an elected representative to become a leader in this Local.
Our Legislative Committee is one of the three sides of the CWA triangle and is equally important to Representation and Organizing/Community Action. Whether you consider yourself political or not, the choices you make at the ballot box can affect you and your family positively or negatively. This committee is responsible for keeping up to date on the political climate to research and report on legislation that can impact the working class and bargained-for employees. It has become increasingly more important to appoint dedicated individuals to this committee to reshape the responsibilities of this Local going forward.
The Education Committee is responsible for creating programs, trainings, and informational packets for all of our members. Over the years, this committee has only been tasked with maintaining a steward school curriculum. Going forward, this committee will be tasked with not only that function, but to create new educational programs using modern technology for delivery of those programs. The emphasis will be on researching the National Labor Relations Act and NLRB rulings, Weingarten rights, employee rights under a collective bargaining agreement, and union representative protections. We are expecting this committee to be large enough to handle two projects at once in order to begin building a library of information that will be useful to current and future members.
